General Visa requirements

There are some common requirements that have to be met for any Australian visa to be granted depending on the type of visa.

Applicants may be required to meet the following requirements:

Certain applicants for Australian visas must meet the English language requirements which differ according to visa classes.

The minimum requirement is occupational English. To meet this requirement, you must have reasonable English language skills – be able to read, write understand and speak well enough to communicate in your qualified industry. For skilled migration visas the threshold requirement is competent English.

To prove that you meet the requirements you must either provide evidence that you are a native speaker or undertake an English language test such as the IELTS (International English Testing System) test.

To claim points for proficient or superior English language skills all applicants, including citizens of United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, the United States of America or the Republic of Ireland, will need to complete an English language test.

Visa application Australia

The criteria for all types of visas and subclasses are set by the Australian Government.

An Australian visa is defined as a ‘permission to travel to, enter and/or remain in Australia. A valid Australian visa will specify how long the holder is permitted to remain in Australia under the conditions of their particular visa either for a specified period of time or it may allow the holder to remain indefinitely.

In order for the Australian Government to consider an application for an Australian visa it must be a valid application. It has to contain all the completed forms for the particular visa class. All the forms must be completed in English as well as the supporting documents provided. The information provided must be accurate, any false or misleading information may cause the visa to be canceled or refused.

If an applicant meets the eligibility criteria, along with the health criteria and any other criteria relevant to that visa class, and they have made all applicable payments, then the Department must grant the visa. It is advisable to use a Registered Migration Agent to ensure that your application will be valid, and to increase your chances of obtaining a positive outcome.

Registered Migration Agents are required to have an in-depth knowledge of Australian migration law and procedure and meet high professional and ethical standards.
